Urban food garden renovation to benefit wider V&A Waterfront community

With food security as a key focus area of the V&A Waterfront’s Our Community CSI programme, an urban garden was installed in 2019 outside Merchant House. The garden’s construction included the use of 538 kilograms of plastic (equating to 1076 Ecobricks) and benefitted food security NGO’s and staff. To date, a total of 6085 kilograms of produce has been harvested and donated.

As part of the rejuvenation of the Portswood Precinct, the garden is now under renovation and will be called Shongololo Shamba. The new garden will be 330 square meters big, up from the original size of 260 square meters. The evolution will enable the garden to be a source of produce for a new restaurant within the precinct, while continuing to provide to the NGO’s helping to feed those in need.

Footfall update

Footfall numbers up until the 24th of January remained consistent with the previous week. We are currently seeing average daily footfall of 30.7k people per day. The footfall at this time of year and prior to pay day is traditionally low and we are simply following the same trend as the year on year comparatives remain stable.

Month-end always promises some uplift in our foot traffic and we are slowly seeing positivity in areas such as Watershed with more visitor numbers, hopefully, this translates into sales.
