Bringing the ocean to people all over the world

The Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation (Aquarium Foundation), the non-profit and public benefit partner of the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town has launched its new website www.aquariumfoundation.org.za, together with a monthly subscription service, and a number of other exciting initiatives, which aim to connect all people to the ocean through information, inspiration and impact.

With the onset of Covid-19 and the national lockdown, the Aquarium Foundation has been very busy online these last few months sharing incredible ocean stories through interactive, live environmental education courses. From its renowned Marine Sciences Academy courses to virtual lessons, the Aquarium Foundation has managed to reach children and adults all over the world. The interest in marine sciences, which includes biology, ecology, sustainability, the environment, heritage, and oceanography, has been phenomenal.

The Foundation Crew is a new monthly subscription service that has been designed and launched to support the Aquarium Foundation’s core activities of education and conservation. Members of the service will have access to exclusive weekly content designed to inform and inspire.

The Aquarium Foundation’s “Mini Crew” has been developed specifically for children between the ages of three and seven years. The activities are designed so that the little mermaids, pirates and fishers can have fun with the Aquarium Foundation’s much-loved puppet characters Geo and Thalie, while they are learning about the ocean. The puppet characters will introduce a new animal every week with August featuring amazing animals such as sea turtles and clownfish. Mini Crew members can learn more about the ocean through exciting online activities, story time, arts and crafts, downloadable worksheets and even fun ‘Fit Fishies’ exercises.

The Aquarium Foundation’s  “Cool Crew” (for ages eight to 12  years) and “Pro Crew” (ages 13 years and older) will be launched soon with weekly classes, activities and interesting talks by environmental heroes. The Aquarium Foundation’s online educators will facilitate learning about the ocean and inspire this young generation to be true eco-warriors. Classes compliment the school curriculum and members of the Pro Crew will also gain skills and insights into managing eco-clubs, marine career choices and how to include environmental awareness in decision making.

“We are so excited about being able to now bring ocean fun, conservation awareness and incredible educational content directly into the homes of our supporters locally and abroad. Our Foundation Crew subscription model will certainly keep kids (and adults) busy, informed and inspired. We have just launched the Mini Crew for all our little ocean enthusiasts, and the activities definitely make me want to be a 5 year old all over again. The monthly subscriptions will also contribute to enabling us to grow our conservation work, such as the turtle rescue programme, and to continue with our environmental education outreach programmes,” said Maryke Musson, CEO of the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation.

The Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation is a registered NPO and PBO, and qualifying donations are tax most appreciative of any support it receives to make all its educational activities available to learners in under-resourced areas.
