Two Oceans expands 30 years of marine education with launch of Oceans Campus

TWO OCEANS EXPANDS 30 YEARS OF MARINE EDUCATION WITH THE LAUNCH OF OCEAN CAMPUS

The Two Oceans Aquarium foundation marked World Teachers Day on 5 October, with the launch of its Ocean Campus, signifying a major new step in marine education.

With a focus on addressing the pressing threats facing the ocean, the event welcomed over 400 teachers for a day of ocean-themed activities, including free access to the Aquarium and a behind-the-scenes tour.

The day also featured a Marine Sciences Career exhibition and a panel discussion where guest speakers shared how the Foundation’s educational programmes have impacted their lives.

Ocean Campus aims to expand the foundations 30 years of marine education across Africa, providing more learners and educators with the tools to better understand and protect the ocean.

CAPE TOWN HELICOPTERS LAUNCHES PREMIER FLIGHT EXPERIENCE

Cape Town Helicopters recently added a new way to take to the skies with their latest addition, the Airbus AS 365. This twin-engine is designed for a smooth, powerful ride, carrying up to 8 passengers along with 2 pilots. It’s a great addition to their fleet at the Waterfront helistop, offering the capability of flying across the Cape Peninsula.

EXCITING WINS FOR SIBA THE RESTAURANT AND TANG AT 2024 WORLD CULINARY AWARDS

Cape Town was named Africa’s best culinary city at this week’s World Culinary Awards in Dubai, and the V&A Waterfront is at the heart of this milestone achievement.

Renowned celebrity chef Siba Mtongana’s “SIBA – The Restaurant” at the Table Bay Hotel has once again been named “Africa’s Best Fine-Dining Hotel Restaurant” at the Awards, marking her second win. The restaurant is celebrated for its fusion of local South African flavours with global culinary influences, all served in a contemporary and creative style. Siba’s dishes often feature locally sourced ingredients and take traditional South African cuisine to new heights with a modern twist.

Tang’s founder and CEO, Nicky Van Der Walt, took home the award for “Africa’s Best Asian Cuisine”. Tang is known for drawing inspiration from Japanese and Chinese flavours, with dishes presented in a contemporary, innovative style. The restaurant’s sleek, elegant ambiance, coupled with its stylish décor, makes it a top destination for those seeking a luxurious dining experience.

ARTIST ALLIANCE LAUNCHES VIRTUAL GALLERY

Continuing its mission to amplify the work of creatives and connecting them with diverse markets and audiences, Artist Alliance is now adding a layer to its support network by launching a virtual gallery with the aim to brings together a diverse collective of local artists, offering a curated selection of works that are accessible to everyone, anywhere and at any time.

Kicking off the virtual gallery is the exhibition “Feminine Gaze: Women’s Perspective in Contemporary Art,” curated by Creative Nestling. This exhibition dives into themes of identity, gender, sexuality, race, class, and power, showcasing the diverse and powerful voices of female artists.

Among the featured artists are two talented graduates from the Artist Alliance program, Mbhali Manzini and Larissa Mwanyama. Their inclusion reflects our commitment to nurturing and promoting emerging talent.

The virtual gallery is set to become a dynamic space for artistic expression, providing an engaging platform for art lovers to discover and support local talent.

LAST CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE THE SEEKERS, SEERS AND SOOTHSAYERS EXHIBITION AT ZEITZ.

This is your last chance to experience the S𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙎𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧𝙨 exhibition at Zeitz MOCAA, as it closes on 13 October, this exhibition can be found on LEVEL 3 of the museum.

The Seekers, Seers, Soothsayers exhibition features seven artists whose lens-based work explores accounts and experiences connected to the nonphysical world. This invisible world can be thought of as spiritual, supernatural, psychological, or abstract. It is an otherworldly realm. Using experimental film, immersive installation, performance, sound, and narration, the artists depict how ritual, devotion and acts of remembrance can offer connectedness, bring restoration, or provide alternative ways of seeing oneself within the cycle of life.

World Masters Hockey – World Cup Opening Ceremony– Cape Town 2024

The World Masters Hockey World Cup 2024 is coming to Cape Town! Kicking off with the Opening Ceremony at the V&A Waterfront on October 11, this 10-day event will bring top-tier hockey action to the city. With a total of five age divisions who will be gunning for the title of world champions, with men and women competing in the over-35 and over-40 sections. The remaining sections will see players contesting the over-65, over-70 and over-75 age-groups.

Matches will be played at the Hartleyvale Hockey Stadium, Western Province Cricket Club and Wynberg Boys’ and Girls’ High School astro turf.
