The V&A Waterfront is a 123-hectare mixed-use development catering to both local and international visitors. It has everything on offer - from residential to commercial property, which includes hotels, retail districts, and extensive dining - to leisure and entertainment facilities.
The V&A Waterfront was first established in 1988, conceived as a mixed-use area with a focus on retail, tourism and residential development with a working harbour at its centre. Prior to that however, the location itself was a central part of the very beginning of the settlement of the city of Cape Town.
To quantify the growing importance of the V&A Waterfront and its economic contribution to Cape Town and the country, the V&A Waterfront Management Company appointed Stratecon (formerly EiS) to undertake an economic impact assessment. The findings have shown the V&A Waterfront’s continued positive impact on job creation, economic stimulus and tourism revenue.
