The talented team from Original T-Bag Designs uses recycled teabags as unique canvases to produce a variety of handcrafted gifts and artwork. This project empowers men and women from local townships to create a better life for themselves and their families. The team has grown from four women working in a garden shed to a vibrant, diverse group of 21 artists who supply the stores at the Watershed in the V&A Waterfront Watershed, the Bay Harbour Market and a Visitor Centre in the heart of Hout Bay. All of these products are either made from or decorated with recycled teabags. Used teabags are dried, emptied, ironed, and then painted. They are then painted by the individual artists, and applied to items such as trays, stationery, trays and coasters. The vibrant Peggy Mongwe is the store manager, and she will be happy to share her story with you.
