As we prepare to welcome another festive season, the V&A Waterfront is proud to celebrate the sixth year of our Joy from Africa to the World initiative. What began in 2017 as a simple idea to reimagine the festive season in a way that truly reflects South Africa’s creativity and heritage has grown into a movement that supports sustainability, celebrates local talent, and uplifts small businesses. Moving away from imported, mass-produced décor, we partner with over 20 local crafters and artists each year to create stunning, durable displays inspired by the natural beauty of Cape Town. From Table Mountain inspired Cable Cars, the Atlantic Ocean, the fynbos forest and Bo-Kaap inspired birdhouses, our installations of light and colour tell a uniquely South African story while championing sustainability and local craftsmanship. DISCOVER THE REVAMPED UNION CASTLE BUILDING The historic Union Castle Building (UCB) has reopened its doors following an extensive heritage-focused revamp, creating a space that honours the past while embracing the future, marking a new chapter for this historic landmark, which has been standing since 1919. Located right outside the Victoria Wharf Shopping Center, the Union Castle Building is now home to some of South Africa’s most beloved brands: South Africa’s acclaimed chef David Higgs, brings his award winning Marble restaurant to Cape Town, offering Mediterranean-inspired live-fire cooking and an exceptional rooftop dining experience that offers a panoramic view of our working harbour and Table Mountain. Complemented by one of the country’s most impressive wine lists, Marble is set to become a highlight of Cape Town’s culinary scene. Positioned outside The Alfred, this iconic sign has become a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists – a place where we all pause to take in the beauty of the bold letters spelling out “CAPE TOWN”. Standing as a tribute to the stunning layers of our natural landscape, the vibrant community of our neighbourhood, and the rich tapestry of people who make Cape Town what it is today.
