Neighbourhood News Update: 24 November 2023


This week we kicked off the festive season with our CEO David Green, joined by the Mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis taking the wraps off a new destination marker for the city in the heart of the Waterfront as well as showcasing new pedestrian walkways, shopping areas and Joy From Africa to the World, the Waterfront’s annual campaign that celebrates local creativity through festive decorations.

Joy from Africa to the World back to showcase best of city’s creative talents

Now in its fifth year, Joy from Africa to the World presents a groundbreaking fusion of creative innovation, compassion, and responsible tourism, showcasing the potential for sustainable success. This year’s theme: Between the Mountain and the Sea is a collaborative effort of more than 20 local teams of crafters, designers, and artists who have created beautiful pieces made from sustainable materials which are all currently displayed across the V&A Waterfront neighbourhood. A unique destination marker for a unique city

Cape Town now proudly stands amongst world-class cities such as Toronto, Amsterdam, and Budapest, boasting its own unique welcome marker at the country’s leading tourist destination.

The distinctive “Cape Town” sign integrates 3D representations of the contours our eight iconic mountain peaks. Drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns found in Mother Nature’s fingerprint, these contours symbolize the myriad layers and rich diversity inherent in Cape Town. Click here to read more.

Step into a world of festive enchantment at the V&A Waterfront this festive season. As the heart of Cape Town transforms into a haven of celebration, we invite you to bring your family and friends to partake in an array of magical events and experiences, such as:

  • Santa comes to the Waterfront
    Capture the magic of the season with a visit to Santa and his merry elves, who will be spreading joy this festive season, offering kids the perfect opportunity for festive photos and holiday cheer.

  • Naledi’s Festive Dream – a theatre production.
    Experience the magic of the season with “Naledi’s Festive Dream,” a whimsical 40-minute play specially crafted for kids to enjoy. Follow 10-year-old Capetonian Naledi on an enchanting journey as her festive wish to meet Santa’s crew comes to life in this lively Christmas production directed by Lee Rath.

  • New Year’s Eve Celebration
    Count down to the New Year in style at the V&A Waterfront’s New Year’s Eve Celebration, featuring an incredible line-up of artists. Join Tarryn Lamb, Just Jinger, Sun-El Musician, Black Ties, Mandisi Dyantyis, The Rivertones, Seth Grey, and The Ploemies for an unforgettable evening capped off with a dazzling fireworks display.

Timeout Market Cape Town, a new addition to our food ecosystem.

Just a week since its grand opening, Timeout Market Cape Town is already making a mark on our neighbourhood’s visitors.

Beyond offering unique culinary experiences, the market provides a vibrant atmosphere with live musical performances, open-style kitchens showcasing food preparation, and the chance to enjoy a variety of dishes in a communal eating setting.

Time Out Market Cape Town will be open daily – opening times are:

  • Sunday to Wednesday: 11am – 10pm
  • Thursday to Saturday: 11am – 11pm

Disney 100 Outdoor Cinema Experience

Dive into the enchanting world of Disney at our Outdoor Cinema, where the magic comes to life.
