23 Sep 2022 ONEOFEACH CO-FOUNDER HONOURED IN GLOBAL CAMPAIGN Global initiative, Conscious Fashion Campaign has recognised ONEOFEACH co-founder Tamburai Chirume as one of the ten honorees for the Conscious Fashion Campaign: New York Fashion Week September 2022 alongside fellow women entrepreneurs across the world. On 25 July 2022, the Conscious Fashion Campaign, an initiative of the Fashion Impact Fund in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Partnerships and the PVBLIC Foundation, announced the new cohort of ten women entrepreneurs advancing fashion industry change. These women were featured in a collective digital billboard campaign throughout New York City during New York Fashion Week 9-14 September 2022. With women receiving only 25% of news features globally (6th Global Media Monitoring Project, 2021), the Conscious Fashion Campaign amplifies the visibility and increases media representation of women entrepreneurs leading the fashion sector towards a responsible future. Featured on the top ten list was our very own, Tamburai Chirume, co-founder of ONEOFEACH, a sustainable fashion and accessories brand located in the Watershed. “On behalf of ONEOFEACH and The African Academy of Fashion, we are really grateful to have been selected as an honouree of such an incredible and prestigious recognition for the work that we are doing” says Tamburai. “This feature shifts the African Narrative by putting African Fashion and African Fashion Education on the global map. “Through further support received from this feature and platform it will hopefully enable us to continue training and empowering more women to find employment and equal opportunities in the fashion industry with the hope for them to ultimately become financially independent. As we all know the unemployment rate amongst youth in South Africa keeps rising. We want The African Academy of Fashion to be the go-to place for every young woman on the continent from underserved communities that is interested in the career path of sustainable and ethical fashion which often seems to only be a dream.” Tamburai and her mom, Pauline Chirume (both founders of ONEOFEACH) have also recently launched an African Academy of Fashion which focuses on practical and hands-on training using the African Fashion Curriculum, a first of its kind, to equip participants with the fundamental principles, techniques, knowledge, and a set of start-up tools that will enable them to use the rewarding skills of constructing garments and accessories from start to finish. The mother and daughter duo are urging the public and others in the fashion and design community to join them on the journey by assisting with developing the initiative through funding.
