Tribute of Light and Hope – A New Year’s Eve celebration

As we prepare for the end of 2021, plans to celebrate, and close off this year on a high note are already underway; starting with the festive celebrations with our Joy from Africa theme comprising of festive season décor and various initiatives to support our community. This period is also a time to reflect on how far we’ve come, and although the country has moved to Covid-19 alert level 1, the pandemic remains a painful reality.

To ensure the safety of all our visitors, and to mark the celebration of a New Year, we will again be shining a light across the city with a seven-day Tribute of Light and Hope, as a representation of hope and new beginnings. Keep an eye out for more details of planned activities over the coming weeks.

The V&A doubles up at the Loeries

This week we were awarded a Grand Prix and Gold Loerie for Interior Design & Temporary Structures for Joy from Africa, an incredible feather in our cap and motivation for us to continue to serve our communities and to inspire others to lead with compassion. We celebrate this win together with Platform, our creative partner.

Footfall update

The past weekend saw a fair number of visitors between Friday and Saturday, with numbers dropping slightly on the Sunday due to bad weather and road closures because of the Cape Town marathon. Although our visitor numbers dropped slightly in comparison to this time last week, we are still seeing positive numbers with an average daily footfall of 35.9k people per day.

We’re hoping that we’ll return to higher visitor numbers as we approach the summer and festive period, with hopes of warmer weather which is always motivation for families to be out and about.
