Neighbourhood News Update: 22 March 2024

Earlier this year, we issued a call inviting food entrepreneurs to participate in the Makers Landing Kitchen Incubator Programme – a 12-month in-depth business accelerator course designed to equip food entrepreneurs with essential skills to further their businesses. The 12 participants, who are the programmes fifth cohort will receive access to business development support, training, and mentorship to enable sustainable business growth and resilience.

This group of passionate homegrown food entrepreneurs brings a variety of unique offerings to the V&A food ecosystem, from seafood boils to plant-based delights, crunchy snacks, homemade jam to irresistible fudge. Not only introducing a diverse tapestry of flavors and treats, but also infusing the space with an exciting new energy.

This past weekend marked the highly anticipated finals of the V&A High School Band Slam, where Bergvliet High, Belhar Secondary, Pinelands High and Parel Valei battled it out for the coveted prize. This is an annual competition where Cape Town schools compete head-to-head, showcasing their musical talents for a monetary prize.

This year’s competition winners, Bergvliet High School claimed the top spot, earning a cash prize of R25 000. Additionally, the school was awarded R25 000 worth of music equipment courtesy of Bothners.

Come and show off your talents at our buskers auditions taking place over the Easter weekend. Our stage is open to all performers who would like to audition – from dance, poetry, musical performances, to circus and balancing acts, magicians, and entertainers. Successful artists will gain access to the V&A Waterfront’s busking sites, development, growth and mentorship assistance. Register here.
