21 Jun 2024 REIMAGINED NEIGHBOURHOOD AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE AT THE WATERFRONT LAUNCHED. Entries for all Waterfront tenants are now open, closing 9 July 2024. The Waterfront will soon host their reimagined Tenant Service Excellence Awards, relaunched as the V&A Waterfront Neighbourhood Awards, during a glitzy evening ceremony in September 2024. The aim is to shine a spotlight on remarkable individuals and businesses within our retail portfolio who embody resilience, innovation, and unwavering dedication. The Neighbourhood Awards not only continue to celebrate excellence in service to visitors, but now also recognise achievement in areas such as community engagement, sustainability, merchandising, marketing, innovation, and overall contribution to the V&A Waterfront ecosystem – in essence, rewarding the tenants who make it ‘worth the commute’ to the country’s most-visited destination. The top winners from the 2023 Awards. Curated judging panels have been drawn from the V&A Waterfront’s senior management and tourism-promotion bodies, as well as consumer insights experts such as trend forecaster Dion Chang of Flux Trends, Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Miles Kubheka, CEO of food accelerator Wakanda, and Preetesh Sewraj, CEO of the Loeries. Awards will be made in 19 categories, including the new Our Better Nature Sustainability Award, Best Activation, Best Community Engagement and more – and substantial prizes will be handed out at an Awards Evening on 19 September 2024. THE WATERFRONT SIGNS RENEWABLE ENERGY DEAL In a commitment to achieving a net-zero carbon emission neighbourhood by 2035, the Waterfront has recently signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Etana Energy, a licenced electricity trader. The Agreement secures 43 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy annually, by sourcing 70% of our energy from independent power producers utilizing wind and solar farms, this PPA will play a crucial role in reducing our neighbourhood’s carbon footprint. Adding to our neighbourhood’s tourist experiences, visitors will soon get to enjoy a trip on and off-water with The Waterfront Duck Company, South Africa’s First amphibious tour bus. The Duck Tours will operate from their ticket office at the Silo District, passing Cape Town Stadium along the Atlantic Seaboard, taking in the city’s famous landmarks and scenic views before travelling back to the Waterfront Harbour to enter the water in the Marina, behind The Cape Grace Hotel.
