Neighbourhood News Update: 15 January 2021

Drive in cinema closure

The drive in cinema experience has been closed due to the national curfew, and with the extension of the revised level three lockdown, both the V&A Waterfront and Ster Kinekor have agreed that the drive in will be suspended until further notice to keep our visitors safe.

Makers Landing revised trading hours

With the country remaining on lockdown level three, Makers Landing will now be open Friday to Sunday. Friday’s trading hours are 10am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday trading hours are 8am to 5pm, to allow for early breakfast trade. Additionally, the To Go box deliveries which we have been on offer since the end of last year, will be included on the TallOrder, DinePlan and UberEats platforms shortly, while we build an online store.

Update on visitor numbers

Last December, we saw record numbers under lockdown up until Christmas, with the month also being 40% up on November’s visitor numbers. On the 24th of December, we reached a seven-day peak of 390 000 people – which means an average daily footfall of 56 000 people per day. With the return to adjusted level three lockdown and reduced trading hours, we unfortunately saw an immediate impact on numbers at what is traditionally our strongest week of the year.

January visitor numbers so far indicate quieter days on the property as we head towards mid-month, which is normal for this time of the year, but we expect to see numbers up again around pay day.
