Cape Town kicks off summer cruise season On November 2nd, 2023, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) commenced its 2023/24 cruise liner season, welcoming 175 confirmed vessel arrivals that are expected to bring approximately 166,933 passengers to South African port cities via its commercial seaports. The start of this year’s cruise season was marked by the arrival of Vasco da Gama’s maiden voyage at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal, which was voted Africa’s Leading Cruise Port in the 2023 Travel awards, an accolade that recognises the best travel, tourism, and hospitality brands in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
