Mandela Day success with our partners Ladles Of Love and SA Harvest

MANDELA DAY SUCCESS WITH OUR PARTNERS LADLES OF LOVE AND SA HARVEST

The V&A Waterfront team with Danny Diliberto, founder of Ladles of Love.

This past Mandela Day was a phenomenal success for our CSI Partners: Ladles of Love, a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating hunger and food insecurity through community feeding programs, volunteer initiatives, and food distribution networks, and SA Harvest, a non-profit organization that combats food waste and hunger by rescuing surplus food and redistributing it to those in need.

This Mandela Day, the community came together at The Lookout, making toys, sandwiches, nutrition boxes, books and so much more to give back and help those in need.

Ladles of Love, celebrating their 10th Mandela Day event, achieved an incredible milestone by breaking the official Ubuntu World Record of most volunteers paying to spend 67 minutes in service, with more than 12,000 volunteers helping children in need.

The SA Harvest Donation station set up outside Pick n Pay at Vic Wharf.

SA Harvest, with the  generous support of our shoppers who managed to fill 600 #BucketsofNutrition, to the needy in  Worcester, Paarl, Port Elizabeth, and also those affected by the recent floods.

Chefs with Compassion, a non-profit organization that takes surplus food from wholesalers, markets, and small-scale farms and packages it into nutritious meals for communities in need, used our Makers Landing demo kitchen to prepare 106,895 litres of soup, far surpassing their goal of 67,000 litres. They served 427,580 cups of hearty and nutritious soup to members of communities for Mandela Day.

Mandela Day continues to highlight the power of unity and compassion within South Africa. Working together, we’ve shown that we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most.

The tour then moves into the waters of our marina and harbour where passengers will gain insights into our neighbourhood’s marine life and ecology.
