The Raj Indian Restaurants offer all the splendour of traditional North Indian cuisine.
The service is efficient and friendly and the food is undeniably the most authentic Indian cuisine available in the country. The food is spicy, delicious, and traditional with the menu offering a large variety of authentic Indian culinary styles such as Tikka Masala, Vindaloo, Korma and Bhoona. Our master chefs are all from India and bring with them at least seven proud generations of Indian culinary knowledge and traditions.
The Raj Indian restaurant group has brought a taste of real Indian cuisine to Johannesburg diners for some 19 years when Dr Arun Jairath, a practicing ophthalmologist, saw an opportunity to launch an authentic Indian restaurant. Back from his medical training in the UK, where he enjoyed some excellent Indian meals in restaurants, he found nothing similar in South Africa. and in 1996 he then opened his first restaurant in Kyalami and the second restaurant followed soon after in Rivonia.
These two outlets rapidly became firm favourites with local and international diners looking for authentic North Indian cuisine in Johannesburg and have since relocated to Waterfall Corner and Nicolway Bryanston respectively. In 2004 expansion started with the first Fast Food outlet opening at OR Tambo International Airport followed shortly by another fast food outlet in Sanridge Square, Midrand. In 2005 a restaurant and Fast Food were opened up in Sun City, and the flagship of the group was opened in the prestigious Michelangelo Towers, Sandton. We have since grown and continue to grow in both the restaurants and express stores.
