The Steelband Project (Western Cape) was born in 1997, founded by the visionary duo Liz Brouckaert and David Wickham. With a mission to bring the vibrant sounds of steelpan music to life, the project is dedicated to providing high-quality music education to young people, especially those from under-resourced communities and youth at risk.
Spanning suburban, township, and rural areas, the Steelband Project has been the heartbeat behind the creation of steelbands across the province. Today, it nurtures 10 thriving steelbands, each with around 15 young musicians, coming together weekly to create harmony, build confidence, and transform lives through the power of music.
