Abraham Mennen is a South African multi-award winning saxophonist, improvisor, composer and multi-discipline artist. Abraham has worked with Louis Moholo, William Parker, Oliver Lake, Kidd Jordan, Joe Morris, John Lockwood, Herbie Tsoaeli, Hilton Schilder, Kyle Shepherd, Kesivan Naidoo, Hamid Drake, Cooper-Moore, Shabaka Hutchins, Reza Khota, Mandla Mlangeni and many others. He has recorded with William Parker and is a member of several of his ensembles. He is also a member of the Hilton Schilder Quartet and various of Louis Moholo’s ensembles.
Abraham performs regularly in New York and throughout South Africa. He has recorded three albums under his own name with the latest two albums due for release December 2018, namely “The Really Revered Whole Story” and “Three Improvisations”.
He has enjoyed a varied musical career thus far. As a soloist, he won gold medal at the ATKV Muziq 2011, Overall Winner at the Wakkerstroom Music Festival 2012 and performed concertos with the London Contemporary Orchestra, The Royal College of Music Chamber Orchestra, the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra and the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic. Other areas of music include performing with conceptual performance outfit The Brother Moves On, being musical director and bass clarinettist of the Korean music group Hapum Haneun Hama, saxophonist in the psychotropical punk band Escarioka Crew, building and curating his own sound installations, and composing and recording for animations, short films and advertising.
Abraham Mennen is a founding member and musical programme contributor of the intersectional creative and educational space, The Interim, in Cape Town South Africa. He is an alumni of the Royal College of Music, London and the New England Conservatory, Boston.

Emily is a Youth Empowerment Expert with over 20 years’ experience in the space. Emily co-founded Amathuba Collective, offering extensive programmes to strengthen young people’s emotional and mental wellbeing.
Their passion to help youth to love themselves and grow into positive and confident humans has informed the V&A Academy approach. At the Academy she guides and oversees activities from an impact perspective to ensure we achieve measurable, lasting change in the young people and their hosting businesses.
Thabile in a seasoned HR Practitioner with a special focus on youth employment. She leads young teams and develops talent in administrative and compliance roles.
At the Academy she liaises with hosts, managers and supervisors to support the development of the young people and their ability to add significant value to their employers. She guides the administrative processes to ensure smooth and impactful implementation the Academy’s projects.
Brett leads the V&A Academy team and is responsible for strategic partnerships to create job opportunities for young people across the V&A Waterfront.
He focuses on enabling career paths for under-resourced youth in Cape Town’s tourism, retail, and hospitality sectors. Brett is passionate about supporting young people’s transition into the workplace and ensuring host businesses nurture their growth. He works to help businesses improve customer service excellence by developing young talent. Brett oversees the design and delivery of training programs, collaborating with employers, funders, and partners to create lasting, positive change across the V&A Waterfront ecosystem.
