The Karien de Waal String Ensemble is a fresh and vibrant new classical, folk and gospel-inspired ensemble that consists of a string quartet, guitars, percussion and voice. Think of it as film scoring meets folk tunes meets Cape Town meets church music!
After studying composition in the USA, Cape Town based composer de Waal returned to the mother city with a plan to help raise up a new generation of young South African musicians. After successfully establishing the non-profit Join Bands Not Gangs, she is now stepping out as composer in her own right. Join us for a beautiful afternoon of all original music – both instrumental and modern gospel songs – as we introduce one of South Africa’s freshest new compositional voices. Not to be missed!
