Marimba Jam in association with Drumba invite you to come experience the joy of playing African music this Heritage weekend at the Battery Park. Join in the fun of being part of a djembe drumming circle or try your hand at learning how to play the African marimba at one of the free public workshops taking place throughout the day. Heritage Jam is a family-friendly event free to the public and patrons of Battery Park – children as young as 3 years old can participate in the workshops – adult supervision is required for children younger than 8 years old.
There will be free drumming and marimba workshop sessions running from 09:30 – 13:30 as well as performances from local school marimba bands. Strict Covid-19 protocols will be observed with a maximum capacity of 50 people per session – arrive early to book your spot! The day will culminate in a collaborative performance by the professional Marimba Jam Performing Band and a touring marimba band from KZN called Music Voyage. So grab your mask and a sunhat and come on down to the Battery Park for a fun-filled day of making music together!
