PCYD (Pétor Creatives Youth Development), a non-profit company co-founded by Taryn Mentor and Elana Pekeur which is based in Ward 75, Mitchell’s Plain, was established in 2021 to target and assist the youth and unemployed to learn trade skills in sewing, pattern making and manufacturing. We have had outreach programs in other communities as well and are currently in the process of bringing this much needed skills to assist children and adults with disabilities.
We would like to see healthy changes and growth in our community with more success stories. It all starts with us, and we want to inspire and motivate those in our community to become self-employed and self-sustainable and to join our network to obtain more access to programs such as this. Our 3rd fashion show on the 26th of August 2023 called From Dust To Glory Fashion Show, taking place at B103 Woodstock Exchange, 66 Albert Road from 6pm, will see the likes of PCYD’s members/students showcasing all they have learned from us since joining us. In conjunction to this we are raising funds to assist the community with CAD programs and thus are in need of laptops or PCs and get a place where our students can sell the products they make.
On the 09th of August 2023 the PCYD members/students will give a teaser of what to expect at From Dust To Glory Fashion Show from the clothing, MC Leekah Arendse who was a designer that showcased that PCYD’s first fashion show and will be giving a motivational speech, to the performers such as dancer group Borne Reality from Skye’s Wooden Spoon Organization and more.
