Join The V&A Waterfront as they launch the first episode of their 100 Beautiful Things web series, Design with Compassion. In this discussion, the panel will be talking about compassion as a culture within business; the value of human capital, and why commercial success and compassion don’t need to be at odds with each other.
Sitting on the panel of esteemed guests are; moderator, Henry Mathys, Social Inclusion and Placemaking Programme Manager from the V&A Waterfront; Mathapelo Ngaka, Community Director and one of the founders of Monkeybiz, which was recently feature on 100 Beautiful Things; Cathy O’Clery, Creative Director, Platform Creative and Vanessa September, architect, urbanist and placemaker.
100 Beautiful Things was launched in April this year by the V&A Waterfront, in partnership with Platform Creative Agency. The aim of this initiative is to celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of the makers behind some of South Africa’s most inspiring projects, products, ideas and experiences. The campaign features 100 Beautiful Things over 100 days, all of which are designed with either compassion, sustainability, future-thinking or local essence at their core, with some being recognised for just simply being beautiful.
The initiative comes at a time when many local small creative business and projects are suffering from the wide-reaching negative impact of the COVID-19 crisis. The V&A Waterfront hope that by showcasing and supporting local business, and encouraging others to do so, it may help in some way to assist them navigating these tough times.
Each episode in the five-part webinar series will be themed around the featured themes showcased in 100 Beautiful Things.
The Design with Compassion webinar will kick off at 12pm on 18 June and will consist of the 40-minute discussion, followed by a 20-minute Q&A session.
