WIN by finding the Wishing Well for Communities

Together with Save Our Schools Non-Profit Organisation (SOSNPO), we’re launching Wishing Well for Communities, in honour of World Water Day 2022.

Find the Wishing Wells for Communities dotted around our neighbourhood and stand the chance to win great prizes from Essence, Swatch, Superdry, Lush, Puma and more!

Each of the 15 Wishing Wells contains a groundwater fact and a code word. Include the code word on your entry form (which you can get at www.soscpt.org or at one of the places listed below), and stand the chance to win the grand prize of a R30,000 V&A Waterfront gift card on World Oceans Day on 8 June. The more Wishing Wells you locate, the more entries you receive to the competition.

Manual entry forms available at:

    • Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre info kiosk
    • Hint Hunt, Watershed
    • Bootlegger Coffee Company, Two Oceans Aquarium
    • Cape Town Tourism mobile vehicle (alongside Reptile World)

You can also spin the Wishing Wheel to WIN
Over the weekends from 22 March to 8 June, you can make a donation into a Wishing Well. This gives you the chance to spin and win. If the Wishing Wheel lands on a WIN segment, you’ll receive a spot prize, such as ice cream, doughnuts, coffee or products from Lush.

All donations will go towards supporting WASH projects in the Kraaifontein informal communities.

The background to this initiative

By raising awareness of the 2.2-billion people worldwide living without access to safe drinking water, SOSNPO will be educating the public about groundwater, the World Water Day theme for the year. Groundwater, a hidden water source beneath the earth’s surface that occupies the spaces between soil, sand and rocks, plays a vital role in sustaining ecosystems, preventing seawater intrusion and providing water for communities. This invisible water source is vital to sustain human life, with 2.5-billion people solely dependent on groundwater for their daily water intake.

Supported by Quality Filtration Systems, a launch event will be held at the Amphitheatre on 22 March, with music and entertainment for all to enjoy.

Over four weekends, 200 children from informal settlements in Kraaifontein will be transported to the V&A Waterfront to enjoy this ocean-side environment and learn about the importance of water. They will participate in a Hint Hunt to locate all the wishing wells, and will enjoy a visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium, with lunch sponsored by Bootlegger Coffee Company.
