WE’RE SAYING NO TO HUNGER WITH YEBO FRESH

As a neighbourhood, we’re combating hunger and working towards food security in and around our neighbourhood.

In our neighbourhood, we see food as a way to reach out to areas around us and to be the change we want to see in the world.

But we also understand that community starts at home. Fuelled by our community spirit, we aim to make a real and immediate difference through food, by helping to feed those in need.

As South Africa moves into a Level 4 lockdown, in response to the third wave of this pandemic, it’s our restaurants, their staff and families that are the hardest hit. With no sit-down service, many incomes are threatened, and our eateries urgently need your help. Be a part of having a positive impact, simply by filling your belly, and order in from our neighbourhood and swing by (safely masked, of course) to collect your next meal. Every order makes a world of difference, helping local eateries weather this storm.

The Level 4 restrictions also mean that many restaurant employees and hospitality staff are limited in their earning opportunities, with less business and fewer tips, impacting the food security of many families who work in our neighbourhood.

Hunger this close to home is simply something we won’t stand for. That’s why we’ve partnered with Yebo Fresh (an organisation working to transform the world of township shopping, with successful experience in delivering tens of thousands of food hampers since our first lockdown last year) to serve and support affected families.

As part of the Heart of Filling the Belly campaign, all food and tourism-related employers in our neighbourhood can request food support for their employees. This request will then give them access to affordable food hampers that will be delivered directly to their homes.

The V&A Waterfront will be covering 50% of the cost of these hampers, meaning that those who need a little extra during this time will be able to purchase half-price, full-quality food for themselves and their families.

So, let’s all say no hunger, and yes to kindness. Working together, we can all make a difference to those who need it most.
