The Ocean Race is back

This month, sailing and sustainability meet where the mountain meets the ocean.

As an oceanside neighbourhood, protecting our coastline is more than a responsibility. It’s in our nature. It’s who we are.

That’s why we are thrilled to welcome back The Ocean Race, a yacht race around the world that’s been bringing people to the water’s edge since 1973. Just like our neighbourhood, this exciting event is inspired by the ocean, and aims to be a catalyst for change by accelerating the protection and restoration of our seas.

As the V&A Waterfront, doing what we can for the sustainability of our seas is in our DNA – and hosting the Oceans Race is a catalyst that continues to evolve the potential of what the Western Cape oceans economy could look like.

Hosting this global race also reinforces our neighbourhood as a global maritime destination and amplifies our commitment to a long and better future for our oceans.

Beyond its greater purpose, the event itself is a fun-filled experience for young and old – and everyone’s invited!

The Ocean Race Restart (Leg 3)

Pop into our neighbourhood to cheer the teams on as they embark on the third leg of this mighty endurance race – this time on the longest southern-ocean crossing in the event’s history – from Cape Town to Itajaí, Brazil. The start will be preceded by a sailors’ parade and fleet blessing, and promises to be fun for the whole family!
