A sailing academy with a mission: Every paid lesson sponsors a child from a previously disadvantaged background and offers them a chance to learn to sail. Founded by big wave surfer Greg Bertish.
The Little Optimist Sailing Academy is about more than sailing. It’s about the skills and opportunities sailing can give a child who would otherwise not have access to it.
Founded by big wave surfer, sailor and ocean activist Greg Bertish, the academy’s primary focus is providing sailing therapy to disadvantaged children from across the Western Cape. Using a fleet of Optimist dinghies, young sailors learn the basics of the sport and water safety before taking the helm themselves.
Private lessons and events are also available, and every paid booking directly sponsors a child who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity. Located at Battery Park, with a social purpose built into every session.
