The Waterfront Rotary Club again partners with the V&A Waterfront to host the Waterfront Canal Challenge at the newly developed urban recreational area Battery Park on Saturday, 19 October. This event is Africa’s only urban canal swim event and will be held on the same weekend as the Cape Town International Boat Show from 18 -20 October.
The Waterfront Canal Challenge starts off with an early morning swimrun (approx 5km) along the canal and through the precinct. Thereafter waves of swimmers competing in the mile and half mile distances will take to the chilly waters of the V&A canal. The event will culminate with a swim to include some of South Africa’s top athletes who will be pitting themselves against each other in an invitation only Elite–mile swim. The winner of the elite swim will be awarded the Waterfront Canal Challenge Theodore Yach Elite Mile Trophy.
With this family fun event the Waterfront Rotary Club also continues “waging war against single-use plastic”. We’re inviting the youth to participate in a competition to build art forms from plastic ocean waste. The winners in various categories will receive great prizes and the overall winning artwork will be on display at the Two Oceans Aquarium for a month afterwards.
Funds raised from this event that will be used for the numerous initiatives of the Waterfront Rotary Club.
