|Alanna Joy, host and founder of The Rust Jam Sessions has been a part of The Waterfront buskers program for over 3 years now. Inspired by the collaborations with other artists and buskers during her time at The Waterfront, Alanna took the concept of an open mic night and created a unique event for local musicians and listeners.
With the structure of an open mic night and the freedom of an improv jam, the sessions allow a glimpse into the creative process and the opportunity to hear and play songs that will never be performed in the same way again. The improv element and the ever-changing dynamic and roles of the musicians means that the audience and the musicians will experience something unique every time.
Many of South Africa’s upcoming musicians have taken part in the sessions, including Matt Carstens, Stefan Botha and Ray Morgan (Money For Bali), Bradley Bath (Poor Princes), Devin Harmer, Frances Clare, Steven Jarvis, Sellah and Matt Roux.
The showcase on the 13th of April will feature the top musicians that have made the event what it is today. With performances from musicians such as Matt Roux, Frances Clare and Ebi Johnstone, the show will be a unique representation of the local talent that regularly attend the jams.
