The Pedestrians are a young, vibrant and fresh Cape Town based band. We are now in our 5th year of existence and there have been a few changes in band members along the way. The current members are:
Keanu Harker lead vocals and guitar
Simon Van Harte on bass
Bradley Prince on lead guitar
Jordan Simons on keyboard
Matthew Fischer on drums
We are a multi-genre band catering for any event , whilst we perform an array of popular music that audiences love, we also contribute to local music by performing original music.
Since our inception we have played at most festivals in and around Cape Town. These include a residency at Jou Ma Se Comedy Club (now renamed to the Cape Town Comedy Club) from June 2014- October 2014, Jazz on the Rocks in Tieties Baai, Suidoosterfees talent search (where we won best act in our category as well as overall winners of the talent search 2015), The International Kite Festival 2014-2017, The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg in 2015, Battle of the band’s at the Quay Four restaurant (which we won in 2016), Taste of Belgium festival, Champaign and Oyster Festival 2016-2017, Jazzathon 2017-2018 , Cape Gate Beer and Wine Festival 2018 and various corporate and private events.
As overall winners of the Suidoorstefees we were offered the opportunity of staging our very own production called Viva D6 Queens in 2016. The play was written and directed by Quanita Adams and we wrote the 7 original songs for it.
We were also the band for the Ganarama Productions show in 2017 called Boogielicious and under the direction and mentorship of Rafeek Mammon we were responsible for the musical arrangements.
In 2018 we released our debut single called SO MUCH FUN and it was very well received by the public. We also collaborated with some other talented local artist like Craig Lucas.
Thus far for 2019 we have performed at The Heart Festival, Huawei K Day, St Josephs Marist Music Festival and at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. At the CTIJF we performed alongside Craig Lucas at the free concert and again on the Saturday night. Then some of our band members performed in their personal capacity on so many different stages alongside some awesome artists. This was truly a dream come true for all of us.
Speaking of dreams our Lead vocalist is working towards making one of he’s dreams come true. Keanu is a participant in The Voice season 3 as he had 2 chairs turn for him during the blind audition stage of the competition, we can’t wait to see where this road will lead him.
In April 2019 we performed at Evita’s Peron, Die Boer,Concerts in the park, Bubbles Oyster and Blanc Festival and The Suidoorste Fees.
Wow! The month of May was filled with exciting things, we did a few gigs with Craig Lucas and then supported Keanu Harker in he’s 1st solo show after being knocked out on The Voice aptly titled “FIRST TIME” and it was a sold out event. Then we did our bit for SP High School at their jazz evening to raise much needed funds for their music students to go to Grahamstown, this is an annual event one that is very close to our hearts. We started laying down tracks for our 2nd single ”CJP” and as always studio work is super exciting. Our 1st single “SO MUCH FUN” has gone international as renowned British musician Kenny Thomas and he’s South African born wife Francisca Blasich is recording it as a duet. The 22nd June we did our own show entitled Step by Step this was a walk through the past 5 years of our existence. We entertained the audience with a musical journey of our highs and lows, inviting old band members to join us on stage. Another achievement in June was registering The Pedestrianscpt.Pty.Ltd cementing our beliefs that musicians and bands are businesses to and requires sound business practices and planning in order to grow, as artists we need to take care of our own financial wellbeing.
It looks as if were well on our way to fulfilling what we set out as goals for the rest of 2019
Our plans for the rest of this year include releasing more original music, doing our own production, tours locally and internationally, collaborating with more artists and just growing musically both as a band and individually.
