Skyelar is a young aspring singer/songwriter who has recently returned from studying music in London. On her return to South Africa she met up with one of Cape Towns top musicians and producers, to form a refined acoustic duo, exploring elements of pop, jazz and original work.
Skyelar and Richard recently released their debut collaboration the single “Breathing Underwater” which appeared on Apple music new in pop playlist and received glowing feedback from Texx and the City.
The single is available on all major streaming platforms, as well as available for purchase. She first performed this track with a live performance on the South African TV show called “The Expresso Show” which highlighted the theme of stress relief and dealing with increased levels of anxiety that arose during the pandemic.
The single was co-written and produced by renowned lead singer of Isochronous, Richard Brokensha. Breathing Underwater shows a new side of Skyelar as a artist. The Funk bass line and darker lyrics create an intriguing dynamic that keeps the listener consistently engaged. Richards production is apparent with glistening synths and smooth catchy guitar licks.
At nineteen Skyelar decided to pursue her music career further by studying songwriting in London. This opportunity allowed her to train under and collaborate with many internationally recognised artists such as Tim Hawes (Ivor novella award winner, worked with Spice girls, Sugababes, Aaron Carter), Leddra Chapman (Ed Sheeran), Luke Concanoon (Daniel Day Lewis, Jamie Cullum, Ed Sheeran). She also worked alongside Skunk Anansie’s lead guitarist Ace and Jennie Surmeli in a project called “Tuning In”, which encourages youth to get involved in music from a young age.
