V&A’S NAME UP IN LIGHTS AT WORLD CULINARY AWARDS IN DUBAI

Cape Town was named Africa’s best culinary city at this week’s World Culinary Awards in Dubai, and the V&A Waterfront is at the heart of this milestone achievement.

The V&A either hosts or has close ties to no fewer than seven of the individual award winners, headlined by Africa’s best hotel fine dining restaurant, SIBA – The Restaurant at The Table Bay Hotel, and Africa’s best Asian cuisine, which you’ll find at TANG at Victoria Wharf.

David Higgs’ Marble Restaurant in Rosebank, Johannesburg, was named South Africa’s best culinary experience, and Marble Cape Town will open soon in the V&A’s revamped Union Castle Building.

Africa’s best landmark restaurant for the second time is Salsify at The Roundhouse, where executive chef Ryan Cole recently spread his wings by opening COY near the V&A’s Bascule Bridge.

The award judges said Africa’s best restaurant is La Colombe Group’s EPICE in Franschhoek, which has two sister properties at the V&A: Pier and The Waterside.

Africa’s best culinary training institution is Silwood School of Cookery in Rondebosch, where Pier and The Waterside are partners.

Finally, Africa’s best new restaurant is Luke Dale-Roberts’ Salon in Woodstock, where the executive chef is Carla Schulze – one half of the partnership behind How Bao Now which has space at Time Out Market Cape Town, which opened in November 2023 at the Waterfront.

Congratulations to all the V&A tenants featured in the 2024 World Culinary Awards,” says V&A Chief Executive David Green. “With over 100 eateries offering everything from casual dining to fast food and fine dining, catering to a variety of tastes and budgets, more than 22.5% of our retail space is dedicated to food and food-related products. This truly solidifies our position as South Africa’s premier dining destination. The Waterfront is proud to have contributed to Cape Town's rise as Africa’s top foodie destination and one of the best in the world.”
