Operating for more than 30 years from the V & A Waterfront, Ulka COLLECTION has attracted attention for its unique creative garments and accessories, exuding exotic elegance.
Austrian Owner Uli started the business in Port Elizabeth in 1986, and attracted the fashion world’s attention when she crafted the first leather skirt decorated with ostrich shells and beads. It was the exposure she received for the skirt in local magazines that encouraged her to make leather garments. She received further acclaim when she made the first wedding dress from leather and lace. She created eye-opening garments for the Durban July and other VIP events. During the late President Nelson Mandela’s presidency, she made ostrich leather jackets as gifts for the world leaders he visited.
Since setting up shop in the Waterfront she has pushed creativity appealing to locals and tourists. Beaded ostrich bags and hand-painted creations are now the main focus of the new Ulka COLLECTION Boutique, located next to the second-floor entrance to the Table Bay Hotel.
