The Everard Read Gallery, Cape Town, opened its doors in the Victoria Wharf in the V&A Waterfront in September 1996. Everard Read is South Africa’s oldest commercial gallery and it strives to maximise the exposure and dissemination of fine contemporary painting and sculpture to a broad audience. The response from artists and collectors has been phenomenal over the years, and Everard Read is an important contributor to the cultural life of Cape Town. A quarter of the gallery houses one of Cape Town´s oldest dealerships, Louis Schachat´s “Die Kunskamer”, renowned for handling South African masters of the last century, as well as some contemporary works.
