Central to its philosophy is a strong commitment to customer satisfaction, built through personalised service and lasting relationships. Located at the Watershed, V&A Waterfront Cape Town, The African Portrait Art celebrates the rich diversity, beauty, and cultural heritage of Africa through portrait art inspired by its many tribes and people. The gallery exclusively represents the works of renowned artists Grant Oxche and Mekhala van der Schyff, offering collectors, tourists, corporate clients, investors, and art enthusiasts’ access to unique and meaningful African-inspired art. Grant Oxche is a South African artist with a profound passion for African portraiture. Through his paintings, he seeks to capture the essence of the human spirit, creating portraits that feel vibrant, emotive, and alive. Grant places particular emphasis on the eyes of his subjects, believing they are the key to conveying depth, emotion, and individuality within each piece. Mekhala van der Schyff views art as an inseparable part of life and expression. Specialising in portraiture, he’s inspired by individuals who live simply and authentically in ways often forgotten by the modern world. His work reflects not only physical beauty, but also emotion, longing, and a deeper human connection that resonates universally. With a profound reverence for nature and life itself, Mekhala regards his art as an extension of his identity and philosophy. As he expresses: “It is said that your life is your canvas, so let us each create our own masterpiece.”
