HIGH SCHOOL BAND SLAM 2026: YOUNG MUSICIANS TAKE THE STAGE

The V&A Waterfront High School Band Slam is back for 2026, and visitors to our neighbourhood are invited to come down to the Amphitheatre and show these young musicians some love. Now in its 14th year, and presented in partnership with Real Wired Music, Bothners, and new partner SAE Institute Africa, the programme forms part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local youth through arts and culture — giving high school bands a platform to perform, develop their talent, and connect with wider audiences.

V&A High School Band Slam 2025 winning school: Bishops Diocesan College

This year, 15 high school bands from across Cape Town will take to the stage over two weeks of live performances, building towards the grand final on 15 May 2026. The winning school walks away with a R20 000 cash prize, R25 000 worth of musical equipment from Bothners, and a professional recording experience at SAE Institute valued at R40 000.

A R5 000 Spirit Award goes to the school bringing the most energy on the night. Throughout the performances, audiences can also look forward to spot prizes from V&A tenants including NOW NOW by Woolworths, Krispy Kreme, the Cape Wheel and more.

TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM FOUNDATION RAISES OVER R600,000 FOR TURTLE CONSERVATION

The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation hosted an 11km open-water swim from Robben Island on Saturday, 25 April 2026, raising vital funds and awareness for endangered sea turtles. Swimmers crossed Table Bay, with a symbolic 450m finish marker at Granger Bay, the site of the future Conservation Centre as part of our Granger Bay development, before reaching the final finish at the Oceana Power Boat Club slipway.

The initiative supports the Foundation’s ongoing conservation work, which focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing stranded and injured turtles. Over the past three decades, the programme has released more than 1,300 turtles, many of them hatchlings found along the Cape coastline. This year’s swim raised over R620,000, with funds contributing directly towards veterinary care, specialised nutrition and rehabilitation resources.

The swim not only demonstrated the dedication of the participating athletes, but also highlighted the importance of marine conservation and the impact of collective action in supporting long-term environmental efforts.

For dessert, Unframed rounds things off with a seasonal waffle topped with honeycomb, dark chocolate sauce and candied pecans.
