It captures the essence of a child - innocent, free, playful, adventurous and wholesome – for the child who appreciates the simple beauty of a handcrafted product. SoJo was formed in November 2010 to identify, source, and create timeless, inspiring and beautifully crafted
products for children not available in the marketplace. SoJo aims to celebrate South African design and fabric in comfortable, playful, innovatively crafted pieces while encouraging creativity and employment in communities. The SoJo lifestyle is about real values, simple pleasures, quality product, traditional South African fabric played into practical, versatile, essentials for children – “wrapped in love…”…. The founder, Jackie Kilcullen spent many years marketing various brands and when hundreds of talented, experienced women were being retrenched and forced to stay at home she saw an opportunity to create unique products locally. She decided to create a couple of tunic patterns first – simple, classic, beautifully crafted garments that celebrate the Shweshwe fabric range in a fun, practical yet vibrant way – age appropriate, yet stylish tunic dresses she could never find for her daughters. SoJo now produces a core range of unique, versatile pieces that can be worn throughout the year and with anything in a child’s wardrobe. The quality of SoJo essentials means the product gets better with age and can be passed from one child to the next, from generation to generation. The greatest challenge is to keep women sewing and crocheting every month. SoJo’s mission is to continue to ‘grow’ the number of women in the group; empower communities through creative collaboration; provide a retail platform for the endless talent found in Southern Africa and instill in our children a sense of value and true appreciation of design and quality of product.</div>||1|
