The winners of the inaugural V&A Waterfront Retail Tenants Neighbourhood Awards (Neighbourhood Awards) were announced in a special evening ceremony Wednesday, celebrating the best in retail in the Waterfront. In addition to the awards presented,  V&A Waterfront CEO, David Green, personally selected the recipient of the first ever CEO Award. This special award recognizes a business that embodies the Waterfront’s core values of excellence in commercial practices, the spirit of ubuntu, an ambassador of Cape Town and a sense of neighbourliness which was presented to the Oranjezicht City Farm Market (OZCFM).

The Oranjezicht City Farm Market.

Established in 2012 and moving to the V&A Waterfront’s Granger Bay in 2015, the OZCFM has become a vital part of Cape Town’s community. It’s more than just an organic market—it’s a platform for food entrepreneurs across the city and a favourite spot amongst locals and visitors alike. With a dedicated team of passionate people who work hard to deliver the best, the market thrives on community spirit, fostered by its founder Sheryl Ozinsky. Who believes that community farming is about much more than growing food, but also breaking down barriers between people and rebuilding a sense of community. OZCFM continues to play an essential role in our food scene and visitor experience” – David Green, V&A CEO.

Award winners included: Kauai, AAFRICAA, Woolworths and ONEOFEACH.

The award winners didn’t just walk away with bragging rights – they also received prizes, including cash, marketing support, trophies, and certificates.

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCAA) Silo Centenary celebrations on Heritage Day, 24 September 2024, was a resounding success, with over 5,000 visitors enjoying a day of free access to the museum’s exhibitions and activities. Marking 100 years of the Grain Silo and seven years as Africa’s largest contemporary art museum, the day’s curated public programme seamlessly blended history, art, and architecture.

From left to right: Thato Mogotsi, assistant curator; Leisl Hartman, Head of Education; CEO of the V&A Waterfront, David Green; COO of Zeitz MOCAA, Fawaz Mustapha; and V&A Head of PR and Comms, Donald Kau.

One of the highlights was the opening of ‘Silo Through the Century: Into the Contemporary’, an exhibition tracing the transformation of the Grain Silo into a cultural landmark. Visitors of all ages participated in art workshops, enjoyed guided tours, and tasted delicious offerings from local food vendors from Makers Landing. The day culminated in a mesmerising performance by South African trumpeter and vocalist Mandisi Dyantyis outside the museum and Silo Hotel.

SAMA award-winner Mandisi Dyantyis filled the air with his signature Afro-soul-jazz, at a special Heritage Day Silo Concert.
