Built by the people

The V&A Waterfront works with partners across tourism, hospitality, conservation, the marine economy, property development and the creative sector. This shared stake means our partners work as a community for the neighbourhood's common good.

The V&A Waterfront

A working harbour. A living neighbourhood

One of the oldest working harbours in the southern hemisphere is also one of the most visited urban destinations in Africa. These parallels are what make the V&A Waterfront the dynamic neighbourhood it is; industrial and civic, historic and contemporary, local and global.

From early-morning runners to office workers and late-night diners, 26 million people move through this 123-hectare neighbourhood every year. They may come for different reasons, but they keep returning because this neighbourhood welcomes everyone.

Our Purpose

To collectively create the world's most inspiring waterfront neighbourhood

The V&A Waterfront business strategy started with a question: where do our commercial interests intersect with the social and environmental challenges around us? And what happens if we engage seriously?

The answer became the foundation for everything we do here. A business that works at that intersection doesn't choose between profit and purpose; it finds that one advances the other. Opportunity, sustainability, and inclusivity are not trade-offs against commercial success; they are the conditions for it.
