Discover Granger Bay

A new stretch of Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline is being opened up to the city. Over the next 15 to 20 years, this R20 billion-plus development will bring new homes, hotels, jobs, public space and a protected bay for swimming, kayaking and boating. A 540-metre seawall will help protect the coastline, while a new coastal walkway will connect the V&A directly to the Sea Point promenade.

A 20-minute water taxi between the V&A Waterfront and the Cape Town Convention Centre, with hop-on hop-off stops along the way. On-board commentary in 15 languages, a dedicated channel for children, and the story of the 'suitcase of money', which you will have to board to hear.

The canal that connects the V&A Waterfront to the Cape Town foreshore has stories in it. Some are architectural. Some are historical. One involves a suitcase of money, and the City Sightseeing Canal Cruise is the best place to hear it.

The 20-minute cruise runs between the V&A Waterfront and the Cape Town Convention Centre, with stops at Battery Park, the AC Marriott, Harbour Bridge and the CTICC. Hop on and off at any point throughout the day on a single ticket; useful as a practical water taxi if you are moving between the waterfront and the city, and genuinely enjoyable as a standalone experience if you are not.

On-board commentary runs in 15 languages including English, Afrikaans, Arabic, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Zulu, and there is a dedicated audio channel for children. The family ticket (2 adults, 2 children aged 4–17) is good value. The canal itself passes Battery Park, where the Stand Up Paddleboarding community has made its home, and offers a perspective on the neighbourhood that is impossible to get on foot.
