Red Bull Flugtag lands at the V&A Waterfront on 2 November! This global spectacle challenges fearless teams to design and launch their homemade flying crafts off a runway – right into the water. The action will unfold across the V&A Waterfront, with all eyes on Jetty 1 as the official launch site. Expect wild designs, epic fails, and big cheers. This is one event you don’t want to miss – arrive early to claim the best viewing spot!

Event Overview
What is Red Bull Flugtag? Red Bull Flugtag is a one-of-a-kind event where teams design, build, and pilot homemade flying machines off a ramp into the water. It’s all about creativity, engineering, and pure entertainment!
When and where is the event taking place? Sunday, 2 November 2025, at the V&A Waterfront, with launches from Jetty 1.
What time does the event start and end? The events start at 10:00am. Flights from Jetty 1 start at 12:00, and the event ends around 17:00.
Access & Parking
How can I get to the V&A Waterfront for the event? We recommend using public transport, e-hailing services, or cycling, as the area will be busier than usual.
Will there be road closures? All roads will remain open, but traffic will be monitored and managed by the V&A and City Traffic teams.
Is parking available? Yes. Parking is available in all V&A Waterfront garages, but space is limited. Arrive early to secure a spot.
Viewing & Entertainment
Where can I watch the event? There will be dedicated viewing zones around the precinct, plus big screens broadcasting live action from Jetty 1. Screens will be located at Clock Tower, UCB Square (in front of the Nike store), and the Amphitheatre.
Is there an entry fee? No, the event is free and open to the public.
Will restaurants and shops be open? Yes! All V&A restaurants, shops, and attractions will trade as usual. Advance bookings at restaurants and for leisure boats are strongly recommended. Harbour House, Quay 4 and Life Grand Cafe offer view onto Jetty 1.
Safety & Security
Is the event family-friendly? Absolutely, Red Bull Flugtag is a family-friendly event with entertainment for all ages.
Are pets allowed? Leashed pets are welcome in outdoor areas, but we recommend leaving them at home due to large crowds and loud noises.
What safety measures are in place? Onsite security, medical teams, and lifeguards will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Emily is a Youth Empowerment Expert with over 20 years’ experience in the space. Emily co-founded Amathuba Collective, offering extensive programmes to strengthen young people’s emotional and mental wellbeing.
Their passion to help youth to love themselves and grow into positive and confident humans has informed the V&A Academy approach. At the Academy she guides and oversees activities from an impact perspective to ensure we achieve measurable, lasting change in the young people and their hosting businesses.
Thabile in a seasoned HR Practitioner with a special focus on youth employment. She leads young teams and develops talent in administrative and compliance roles.
At the Academy she liaises with hosts, managers and supervisors to support the development of the young people and their ability to add significant value to their employers. She guides the administrative processes to ensure smooth and impactful implementation the Academy’s projects.
Brett leads the V&A Academy team and is responsible for strategic partnerships to create job opportunities for young people across the V&A Waterfront.
He focuses on enabling career paths for under-resourced youth in Cape Town’s tourism, retail, and hospitality sectors. Brett is passionate about supporting young people’s transition into the workplace and ensuring host businesses nurture their growth. He works to help businesses improve customer service excellence by developing young talent. Brett oversees the design and delivery of training programs, collaborating with employers, funders, and partners to create lasting, positive change across the V&A Waterfront ecosystem.
