A new stretch of Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline is being opened up to the city. Over the next 15 to 20 years, this R20 billion-plus development will bring new homes, hotels, jobs, public space and a protected bay for swimming, kayaking and boating. A 540-metre seawall will help protect the coastline, while a new coastal walkway will connect the V&A directly to the Sea Point promenade.

Hannerie Visser is the creative mind behind Studio H-a culinary-minded design studio with offices in Cape Town and the Netherlands. Since founding her company in 2013, Hannerie has built a reputation as South Africa’s leading future food designer. Working across industries, Hannerie designs creative strategies for brands through trend forecasting, new product development and sensory design. In 2019 Hannerie founded FOOD XX, a support network and annual awards for women in food in South Africa.
Andy Fenner is the Owner and Founder of Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants, a butchery focusing on ethically-reared meat. He is at the forefront of sustainability and nose-to-tail eating in South Africa. Previously voted one of Mail & Guardian’s top 200 Young South Africans, he has been featured in – or written for – multiple big media publications in South Africa. He is also a published author, with two successful books to his name. Hannerie and Andy work together as strategic consultants across various food projects.
Emma Hosking and Kim Bloch are the Co-Founders of Umthunzi Farming Community, a marketplace for seasonal, organic #vegwithanimpact grown by small-scale farmers in and around Cape Town. Their mission is to create empowering economic opportunities for urban farmers through capacity building, sales and logistics to distribute their vegetables across the city.
Karen Dudley, Chef and Founder, The Kitchen
Karen Dudley is a South African chef, food writer and restaurateur. She is best known for her well-loved restaurant, The Kitchen which was based in Woodstock, Cape Town. Karen has appeared on multiple international TV shows and has been interviewed by The New York Times and The Guardian. She has also appeared as a guest judge on the reality cooking show My Kitchen Rules South Africa and has written several cook books.
Vanie Padayachee, Head Chef, Sabora Tented Camp, Singita, Tanzania
Vanie Padayachee was born and raised in Durban where she trained at ML Sultan Hotel School. Since then she has worked at some of the country’s most recognised restaurants and hotels, including The Halyards Hotel, The Plettenberg Hotel and Grande Provence in Franschhoek. Vanie hosted cooking classes at Le Quartier Francais, which was acquired by Leeu Collection in 2015. After travelling to India, she returned to Leeu Collection as the Head Chef of the Franschhoek’s first authentic Indian restaurant, Marigold. After leaving Marigold, Vanie took on a new adventure as Head Chef at Sabora Tented Camp at Singita in Tanzania.
Aubrey Ngcungama and Ian Manley, Co-Founders, BLACC
Aubrey Ngcungama and Ian Manley are the Co-Founders of the Black Cellar Club (BLACC www.vulaafrika.com ), an organisation with a mission to create a communication engine and networking platform for like-minded African sommeliers and wine stewards throughout Africa.
Ishay Govender, Journalist and Co-Founder, SA POC at the Table
Ishay Govender is an award-winning freelance food and culture journalist and the author of Curry: Stories & Recipes Across South Africa. She is the founder of SA POC (South African People of Colour at the Table), a network that served to empower people of colour in the food, beverage and related creative industries in South Africa, with a strong pan-African approach. She is currently hosting an on-going panel discussion series with SAPOC members dissecting issues around diversity, transformation, mental health and business challenges.
Lufefe Nomjana, Founder, Spinach King
Lufefe Nomjana is a social entrepreneur, known to his community as ‘The Spinach King’ or ‘Popeye,’ not only because of his love for spinach, but because of what he has turned it into. Self-starter Lufefe’s company, Spinach King, is starting a health revolution in Cape Town’s townships.
Ben Cox is the Managing Director of the Neighbourgoods Market, an independent, award-winning market featuring over 100 specialty traders. The market is held every Saturday and creates a weekly platform for local farmers, fine-food purveyors, organic merchants, bakers, grocers, mongers, butchers, artisan producers, celebrated local chefs, and micro enterprises.
Russell Boltman is the Co-Founder and Director of Devils Peak, a truly South African brewery. Since launching eight years ago Devil’s Peak has played a key role in changing the beer landscape across South Africa by raising the bar, raising expectations, and keeping it real.
Keletso Motau, Freelance food stylist
Keletso Motau is a freelance food stylist, vendor curator and creative consultant of 12 Mile Tour, Bellville’s first ever ‘food walk’ through the CBD to experience the best afripolitan cuisine that Bellville’s has to offer.
