Head On Design

Head On Design is a Cape Town-based creative studio specialising in modern African décor and art with purpose. A passionate lover of safari travel, founder Joanna Orr created the business from a desire to produce work that was not only visually striking, but also meaningful — encouraging more conscious living and a deeper appreciation for Africa’s wildlife and natural environments.

Best known for its distinctive wall-mounted animal ‘trophy’ head sculptures, Head On Design celebrates the beauty of African wildlife without harming it. They serve as a quiet stand against hunting, poaching, and the destruction of natural habitats — wherever possible, natural and recycled materials are used.

Beyond conservation, Head On Design is deeply rooted in creativity and collaboration. Working within a shared studio environment alongside fellow artists has brought new energy and perspective to the brand.

Collaborations with artist Sharon Boonzaier have become a defining part of the collection, with her bold prints of African wildlife, birdlife, and the proteas of Table Mountain featured across many of the animal head designs. Her hand-painted and gilded finishes transform the pieces into striking works of art and meaningful conversation starters — reminding travellers of their time spent exploring South Africa.

Many of the pieces are cleverly flat-packed, making them easy for travellers to take home, assemble, and enjoy for years to come.
