The V&A Waterfront is excited to bring you the third annual Sustainable Seafood Fest taking place on 4 & 5 July 2026

The V&A Waterfront’s Sustainable Seafood Fest Returns to this July

Cape Town's beloved celebration of seafood, ocean culture and sustainable food systems is back.

The V&A Waterfront is proud to present the third annual Sustainable Seafood Fest, taking place at Makers Landing on 4 and 5 July 2026 from 10am to 5pm daily.

Set against the backdrop of the working harbour, the free-entry festival brings together fishers, chefs, food entrepreneurs, sustainability advocates, the curious and seafood lovers for a weekend of fresh flavours, learning and family-friendly experiences.

The festival aims to celebrate local and traceable seafood while highlighting the people, stories and businesses that make South Africa's seafood ecosystem thrive. Visitors can enjoy a vibrant fresh fish market including Abalobi and Wild Peacock as well as 4 other small scale fishers from Cape and Overberg fisheries joint initiative, cooking demonstrations by mussel monger, cape fish, kid and adult workshops, educational exhibits by WWF SASSI, CatchGreen, SAquaDC, live entertainment and a diverse selection of food and beverage offerings.

This year's Fresh Fish Market features seafood suppliers and fishing enterprises including Abalobi, Wild Peacock and 4 other small scale fisheries , providing visitors with the opportunity to engage directly with producers, buy and learn more about responsible seafood sourcing.

Food lovers can look forward to a carefully curated line-up of food entrepreneurs & vendors including Kapoochka, Abalobi x Tasca Mozambique, Herenity x, House of Grace, Cardamom Kitchen, Den Anker, Zuney, Beluga, Jollof Cafe, and KaBullz, alongside sweet treats from Churn It, Charming Chef, Afrikoa, Finest Frozen Yoghurt and Twinkle Pop.

The festival also showcases complementary food producers and artisans including Yeoville's Sauces, Lelos Tasty Foods, Aquatic Caviar, Vitra Fruits and Soul Harvest, while visitors can enjoy refreshments from Sunshine Sprouting Co, Smart Smoothies and Kofu Coffee.

Adding to the culinary experience, acclaimed restaurant Terrarium(from the V&A Waterfront) will take over the Makers Landing Restaurant Residency space from 10am-4pm daily, while celebrated author and food storyteller Onezwa Mbola will host special dinner residency experiences across the weekend.

Beyond the food, visitors can engage with organisations working to protect our oceans and build a more sustainable seafood future. Educational exhibitors include WWF SASSI, MSC with Sea Harvest, Two Oceans Aquarium, Abalobi, Catch Green and SAquaDC.

Families are well catered for with a dedicated Kids Zone featuring child minders, colouring activities, ocean mascots and family-friendly entertainment throughout the day.

Deeply entrenched in our food philosophy at the V&A Waterfront is the need for everyone to have a seat at the table, and to act always in a way that is just, equitable and sustainable. Our Seafood Fest will therefore also serve as a platform to stimulate a deeper conversation around the provenance of what we put on our plates, the communities, and livelihoods the seafood sector supports, and the impact our fishing and consumption habits have on our oceans. Makers Landing exists because food can teach, inspire, bring joy and connect people over common passion points. Food can unite, spark meaningful dialogue and create memorable experiences. The Sustainable Seafood Fest celebrates not only exceptional seafood but also the people, communities and ecosystems that make it possible."

Whether you're a passionate home cook, seafood enthusiast, industry professional or simply looking for a memorable winter outing, the Sustainable Seafood Fest offers something for everyone.
