Upgrade Your Cinema Experience with the NEW Ster-Kinekor at V&A Waterfront

Two icons of world-class entertainment are joining forces to bring a next level cinematic experience to Cape Town…

Superior sound, exceptional screen resolution and unparalleled comfort – Cape Town moviegoers can now enjoy a new, state-of-the-art cinema experience at one of Cape Town’s most iconic landmarks. South Africa’s leading and most-loved cinema house, Ster-Kinekor, is proud to announce the opening of one of their flagship sites at the V&A Waterfront.

As one of Cape Town’s top destinations for both tourists and locals, the V&A Waterfront will now elevate its entertainment offering with an all-new Ster-Kinekor cinema from 16 June 2022. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Ster-Kinekor is running a thrilling opening promotion from 16-30 June 2022. For only R120, movie lovers will get a small drink and small popcorn, as well as a ticket to watch their movie of choice in any format: Kid’s Cinema, Cine Prestige, Cinema Nouveau, 2D or 3D.

“We have waited a long time to get the V&A cinema opened and we are excited that it is finally happening. We hope that the people of Cape Town are as excited as we are about movies returning to the iconic V&A Waterfront. The newly upgraded cinema is an exciting fusion of the Ster-Kinekor’s world-class entertainment experience and the modern, industrial aesthetic of the V&A Waterfront,” says Ster-Kinekor’s Acting CEO, Motheo Matsau.

This new flagship cinema will provide guests with a variety of formats, including the first ever Kids’ Cinema to be opened in the Western Cape. From 16 June 2022, moviegoers can have a fun-filled family outing at the Kid’s Cinema, a distinctively luxurious cinema experience at Cine Prestige, enjoy art house titles at Cinema Nouveau, as well as the 2D and 3D viewing experiences.

“Our Kid’s Cinema is a family-friendly, child-focused movie-going experience that allows kids to delight in the magic of cinema in a space that was created with both kids and parents’ comfort in mind”, says Matsau. “It has a dedicated waiting area with tables filled with colouring pages to keep the little ones busy, as well as its very own snack counter. The cinema itself boasts vibrant bean bag seating for kids and larger seating for parents. The best part? It also has playground elements, including a ball pit and slide. Yup, a playground in the movie theatre!”

For those who enjoy experiencing blockbusters with next-level sound and size, IMAX will be available later this year, as well as D-BOX, which immerses thrill-seekers in a motion-fueled cinema experience.

The newly upgraded cinema and the exciting opening promotion are not the only things to look forward to in June. When it comes movie titles, guests will be spoilt for choice! Over the month of June, patrons can look forward to highly anticipated fan favourites, including JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, TOP GUN: MAVERICK and LIGHTYEAR, which will be showing from the launch day, 16 June 2022.

Other upcoming titles include MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU on 1 July (which will include a character tour), THOR: LOVE & THUNDER on 8 July and BULLET TRAIN on 5 August. Cinema Nouveau audiences can look forward to GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE on 8 July.
