A new stretch of Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline is being opened up to the city. Over the next 15 to 20 years, this R20 billion-plus development will bring new homes, hotels, jobs, public space and a protected bay for swimming, kayaking and boating. A 540-metre seawall will help protect the coastline, while a new coastal walkway will connect the V&A directly to the Sea Point promenade.

Last night the inaugural One Blue Heart dinner took place at the One&Only. In raising funds for the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s Turtle Conservation Centre, guests were treated to a Zero Waster dinner by chef Gianluca, art by the likes of Ardmore and Dylan McGarry and inspired by the words of Pulitzer Prize Winner Dele Olojede.

With turtles and other marine wildlife being at the forefront of the consequences of food and plastic waste – the event was also used as a platform to announce the Zero Waste Chefs Training Programme and Food Accelerator at the V&A Waterfront. Zero waste cooking means the least amount of food and packaging is left behind by redirecting edible food waste to compost scraps and eliminating single-use plastics. And long with the Maker’s Landing Incubator Programme, there will also be the addition of the Zero Waste dimension – to develop awareness and intention amongst the participants on their impact on our environment.
