Living at the V&A Waterfront means living inside one of the most connected neighbourhoods in Africa, with everything that comes with it: security, convenience and a view that never gets old.
At the V&A Waterfront, people come together to work, visit, create and belong. More than a destination, it's a neighbourhood of opportunity, supporting 30,000 direct jobs and contributing R45.9 billion to the economy.
A new stretch of Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline is being opened up to the city. Over the next 15 to 20 years, this R20 billion-plus development will bring new homes, hotels, jobs, public space and a protected bay for swimming, kayaking and boating. A 540-metre seawall will help protect the coastline, while a new coastal walkway will connect the V&A directly to the Sea Point promenade.

Makers Landing introduces the next iteration of a retail food business with a pop-up restaurant concept which invites rising stars to take up residency in a bigger restaurant space, giving them an opportunity to get a taste of running a full-scale restaurant. First to take up the opportunity in the 100spm space is Emazulwini’s Mmabatho Molefe, one of South Africa’s most promising young chefs, who will move from her current 10-seater restaurant at Makers Landing into the 40-seater pop-up space designed in collaboration with Clout/SA, a design programme that facilitates collaboration between design makers and the hospitality sector. Interior design specialist, Walter Train, was the design lead on the project and was mentored by Clout/SA. Click here to read more.

The Ridge building, home to Deloitte commercial office was named as the Highest Rated Building in the Office As Built category at this year’s Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) Gala Awards held 03 November 2022. The award highlights the building’s now proven design functionality and its many sustainable and innovative features.
The Ridge, no stranger to Green Star accreditation, was also awarded the Highest Rated Building in the 6-star Green Star Office Design category award just last year by the GBCSA.
A few components that make the commercial office noteworthy is that the space is designed to meet the climate and other environmental challenges of the future and reduce building energy and water consumption costs on an ongoing basis. It achieves this by incorporating features such as natural ventilation, thermally activated building structure (TABS) and displacement ventilation. Read more here.

The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa, (WESSA), has again awarded the Waterfront Marina, a fourth year in a row, with Blue Flag status; recognising the high standards of care and management of our marine environment by the Marina team.
“This award highlights our consistent focus and efforts in ensuring the cleanliness of our marine and the safety and protection of our sea and bird life. This is an incredible achievement for us as a team and we’re inspired to continue towards our journey of putting the environment first.” – says Andre Blaine, Executive Manager: Marine & Industrial.

October benefitted from the school holidays running into the 1st week of the month as the Waterfront always sees an upward spike in visitor numbers during school breaks. We continue to see the advantages from returning large events like Cape Town Marathon, Stormers URC matches, and Boat Show on and around our neighbourhood that drive additional foot traffic to the V&A. The warmer drier weather has also played in our favour, allowing for visitors to experience the broader reaches of the property. An unintended consequence of load-shedding is increased feet into our neighbourhood, benefitting our restaurants and commercial office occupancy.
The rolling 12-month figure is slowly moving upwards and is now sitting at 20 million visits in comparison with the previous 12-month period which represents a 36.1% increase from 2020 because of the hard lockdown period in the baseline number. We are now seeing a 76.2% recovery when comparing to the last normal in 2019.
We’d love to hear from you.
