AFRIKOA is the first bean-to-bar company in South Africa to produce chocolate made from cocoa sourced directly from Tanzanian farmers.

We’re proud to be the first African grown and produced chocolate to win a 2-star Great Taste Award AND silver and bronze at the International Taste Awards.

MADE OF AFRICA

While almost two-thirds of the world’s cocoa beans are grown in African soil, most of it is exported to Europe and America where it is turned into chocolate before being returned to our African shores. We believe in growing the art of chocolate-making within Africa and supporting farmers and their local communities. We’ve made a promise that our chocolate will always be Made of Africa using cocoa beans that have never left the continent.

DIRECT TRADE

By trading directly with cocoa farmers, they earn significantly more than they would if middlemen were involved. The farmers are able to support their families, they are invested in producing the finest-quality cocoa beans and you can enjoy our chocolate knowing that it isn’t at the expense of somebody else.  “We believe that our direct trade partnership, which treats the farmers with fairness, dignity and respect is the future of chocolate.”

BEAN TO BAR CHOCOLATE

We combine only the finest organic, heirloom cocoa beans with locally grown unrefined cane sugar to create our range of chocolates – no gluten, soy, GMO’s, palm oil or artificial flavourings or colourings.

It takes 12 steps to turn a cocoa bean into a chocolate bar. Each step has a vital impact on how the final chocolate tastes and it requires a special collaboration between cocoa farmer and chocolate maker to create the perfect chocolate bar.
