12 Apr 2024 TWO OCEANS AQUARIUM ANNOUNCES TURTLE CONSERVATION CENTRE IN GRANGER BAY V&A Waterfront CEO, David Green, announcing the opening of The Turtle Conservation Center which will be part of our Granger Bay precinct improvement project. Last night the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation (TOA) hosted their second One Blue Heart fundraising event, where all aspects of the event were focused on promoting sustainability. Featuring zero-waste catering, slow-fashion, and art with a purpose, the event brought together individuals united in their commitment to marine conservation. The event’s mission stems from the alarming impact of human actions and plastic pollution, which have severely disrupted marine ecosystems and pushed sea turtles to the brink of extinction. This Conservation Centre will be the first of its scale in Africa, including a turtle rehabilitation hospital, and education facilities. This initiative will enable TOA to enhance their ongoing efforts in turtle conservation, education, and research. Over the past 20 years TOA has successfully released over 1000 turtles back into the ocean. Photo Credit: Two Oceans Aquarium “The new facility will showcase various species of turtles in our care. It will provide us with the opportunity to share information about turtles and the marine ecosystems they call home, to demonstrate the care and attention needed to nurse turtles back to health, and to appeal to the public to make changes in their lives which will benefit not only the turtles, but all inhabitants of the ocean” explained Lamont.
