Sat 13 Dec - Cherry Vinyl
Cherry Vynil is a three piece band and their music can be described as Light Rock with a Jazz influence. They derive inspiration from Jack Johnson, John Mayer & Counting Crows and also cover some of their music, but prefer to stick to their own original songs. Performance include Stellenbosch Medical Campus, Zula sound Bar and soon at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre.
Sun 14 Dec - Caelee
Caelee is a South African singer, best known for winning the first season of the singing reality show “Supersterre” (Superstars) in 2005. After winning “Supersterre”, Caelee released a singe entitled ‘Supersterre Caelee’ and she is currently signed to the BMG label. Born and raised in Bellville, Cape Town, Caelee currently attends the Edgemead high School and has 2 sisters Mikayla and Tashanna
Mon 15 Dec - Dave Ferguson
Dave Ferguson sings and plays rock & roll and the blues and has become a master on the stage where alone, he works with a briefcase full of harmonicas during his performances. He has people up and dancing during his performances and a performance not to be missed!
Tues 16 Dec - Prime Circle
Prime Circle is the epitome of a Great South African band! During the past 18 months Prime Circle have played an excess of 350 shows – a gruelling schedule indeed and with no plans to slow down. Prime circle are ensuring that their presence will be felt and heard all over South Africa constantly!
Wed 17 Dec - Karen Zoid
Born in Brussels as the daughter of a South African diplomat, Karen grew up in Belgium and Johannesburg where she became a teenage busker, honing her song writing, guitar playing, and singing skills on the streets of Mellville. She is supported by her accomplished band members Don Reinecke on lead guitar, Rixi Roman on bass and Marlon Green on drums and percussion.
Thurs 18 Dec - Chasing Friday
What does Chasing Friday mean? Have you ever worked a boring 9-to-5 job? Are you still at school? If you can relate to this, then you already know what Chasing Friday means. Chasing Friday is not just a band – it’s a way of life! Formed in late 2007, an unusually long Cape Town winter couldn’t stop this band from exploding onto the Cape Town music scene. The band writes catchy, “groovable”, interesting rock songs. It’s the kind of music that makes you want to pump up the volume and roll down the windows when you hit a red robot.
Fri 19 Dec - Cofield Mundi
The Cape Town based singer-songwriter, who recently completed the recording of her sophomore album “The Big Question”. Cofield’s distinctive voice, prolific songwriting talent and the commercial value of her songs is evident in her achievements. Nominated by the US Grammy Academy as an entry for the 49th Annual Grammy awards 2007 in the category of Best Female pop Vocal Performance alongside Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Nelly Furtado and more of the world’s largest pop talents as one example amongst others!
Sat 20 Dec - One Day Remains
One Day Remains roots can be traced back about 8 years or so ago when Michael Naranjo and Daniel first met in Table View Cape Town. Michael had a solo career for most of his early twenties and wile Daniel cut his teeth with one or two bands that made quite a bit of headlines back in the early to mid 90’s. One Day Remains are determined to become one of the best South African rock exports.
Sun 21 Dec - Ike Moriz
SA Indi-pop idol Ike Moriz’s press release is more abundant that a list of Michael Jackson lawsuits. Signed to UK, label Mosquito, the baby-blue-eyed artist is obviously comfortable in the buzz of the music industry, and is also quite comfortable both in studio and on stage SA prepares for the release of their own pop ambassador’s third studio album, All Around the world.
Mon 22 Dec - Melanie Lowe
Melanie Lowe, Durban based singer/songwriter, has a broad appeal. She performs constantly around South Africa, at concerts, corporate functions, music festivals, fundraisers, schools and charity events. She has also performed several times with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. Melanie appeals to both English and Afrikaans audiences and has a large repertoire to draw from with songs ranging from pop to rock to jazz to some R&B, and always includes her own original songs from her various CDs.
Tues 23 Dec - Jack ‘n Jill
Jack ‘n Jill is a 4-piece, hard rock band. Their music is a rocking cocktail of powerful and tight compositions, complimented by strong vocal melodies. Regular airplay on national radio, and strong performances at venues across Cape Town and at KKNK 2007, has earned them a big reputation amongst fans and fellow musicians alike.
Wed 24 Dec - Stefan Ludik
26-year old Namibian, Stefan Ludik is a singer, actor and man of many talents! Stefan hit South Africa with a bang, holding millions of TV-viewers and live audiences spellbound by his performances. He has played in various TV shows, notably “Haak en Steek” and “Egoli – Place of gold”. His love for music stems from school and he taught himself to play the guitar.
Fri 26 Dec - Clark & Van der Hoven
Clark & Van der Hoven was formed in January 2006 when Gerald Clark and Werner van der Hoven were purely playing gigs in Jeffrey’s Bay to support Gerald’s surfing trips and of course for the love of music, later realising that this duo wasn’t just happening out of mere cash-flow problems, but had a soulful meaning to what was on the rise. These two undoubtedly share the passion, conviction, and talent needed to achieve exemplary marks in the world of the modern day musician.
Sat 27 Dec - Farryl Purkiss
Farryl Purkiss is a South African born singer-songwriter. He picked up the guitar when he was 15 years old and began writing songs shortly after his 16th birthday. He started performing outside of South Africa in 2007, and this led to the release of his full-length debut album to high acclaim, chart success and award nominations. He has since spent most of his time touring the world with over 140 gigs in 2007 and early 2008.
Sun 28 Dec - Shaun Tait
Shaun Tait is a South African singer who – at the age of 14 – won the second series of the reality singing show “Supersterre” in 2006 and won a recording contract with Sony BMG. Tait loves playing the guitar and started music lessons at the age of nine. Shaun is determined to be a world-famous artist and looks up to Elvis Presley as his musical inspiration
Mon 29 Dec - Southern Gypsy Queens
They are South Africa’s most promising rock act since forever. Guns ‘n Roses, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Rage Against the Machine and Rolling Stones are all influences, and the four band members seem to think that AC/DC’s album ‘Back in Black’ is an all-time favourite. The Southern Gypsy Queens can, however, hold their own in the world of rock. They are willing to push musical boundaries to the limit, but also understand that a classic rock hook, or powerful pulsating drumbeats, is as important as being innovative.
Tues 30 Dec - Natalie Chapman
With a background in musical theatre from the age of eight and 19 years of training in dancing, singing and acting, Natalie Chapman developed her exceptional natural talent from a young age. In the last six years, Natalie has independently produced her debut album ‘Between the lines’, signed a 3-album record deal, and shared the stage with the likes of Arno Carstens, Albert Frost, and Tony Cox, amongst others. Not only is Natalie’s recorded voice and music exceptional, but her live performances are electric.
Wed 31 Dec - Mike McCullagh
Mike McCullagh was a member of one of South Africa’s top groups of the 70’s McCully workshop. And during this period they had 6 Top 10 original hits including 2 number ones, Buccaneer and Chinese Junkman. Mike’s shows have toured all the major centres of SA and at many music festivals. They have also been great hits in Zimbabwe and Namibia where they have toured regularly. Mike is known for discovering young, new talent and giving them an opportunity to perform to capacity houses and his shows are always on an extremely high musical standard. He show-cases exceptional talent, high energy and audience participation, thus patrons know that a show by Mike McCullagh guarantees a great night out and New year’s Eve is an excellent choice for this band at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre!
