Habitat for Humanity is a world-wide, non-profit, non-governmental organisation that is aimed at eliminating substandard housing in South Africa. The B.R.I.C. committee, Bishops and Rustenburg in Community, raises funds for this organisation as well as highlights the need for social awareness amongst young people.
The main fund-raiser is a 25-hour Cyclathon at the V&A Waterfront from the 5th to 6th February 2010. There will be seven stationary bicycles on the stage of the amphitheatre. Cyclists will come from Rustenburg, Bishops, Westerford and a variety of schools in the area. The public and various celebrities and representatives from the businesses that sponsor the event also participate in the cycling. In order to raise money throughout the actual 25 hours, students sell paper bricks for a minimum of R20. All the bricks sold in the hour are placed in a box and the MC draws three every hour on the hour. Fantastic prizes are offered during these draws.
The event promises to be a huge success with bands performing such as Checked Zebra, Stack Shot Jack, Fallen Season and more as well as Rustenburg Girls School’s Marimba band. Join us at this fabulous venue for loads of fun whilst supporting such a great cause.
